Supplies
Shopping for an Art Journal can be a bit overwhelming.
There are so many choices! Here are some tips to help you: Paper Weight: 140 lbs. is an ideal weight. It allows for use of wet media, markers, glue, and more! I try not go any lighter than 90 lbs. Sometimes markers will show thru on the other side if you go too light in paper weight and using paint on the pages may cause the page to curl and bleed thru to the other side. Type: Mixed Media is an ideal journal. Watercolor pads work fine too! A sketch book will not handle the layers and wet media well, unless you glue together several pages to make your page a little thicker. Brand: Typically any brand is fine. I have used many different brands and haven't found any that stands out above the rest. As long as it is a Mixed Media-140 lbs, the journal will work great for all the layering and experimenting that takes place in an art journal. Size: It's up to you. I work in all sizes. In Art Journaling Club we use a smaller journal.

Art pod students and their parents will often ask what supplies I'm using. I've put together a list of the supplies used during the 2018 Summer Art Camp at Craigville Park. Most supplies can be found in our local craft stores. |
